Pixel Town Builder — 4 Town Styles, 99 Buildings
A downloadable asset pack
Four complete town styles, not one style four times. Half-timber, dark stone, cosy pastel and classic red-roof — each with its own 22 buildings, its own props, its own ground decals and its own street and dirt-path tilesets. Pick one and build a whole town without ever mixing.
NEW: place villages with one click
The FREE GegX World Builder detects this pack and unlocks a village-placement tool on generated worlds.
New in v1.2 — more for the half-timber style
Nine more buildings and ten more trees, all in the half-timber style: tavern, trader, jeweller, schoolhouse, broker, forge, stable, watch house and wizard’s house. The trees come at different heights — oak, lime, chestnut, willow, poplar, cypress, fruit tree, autumn tree, a bush and a sapling — so a street does not look planted by a machine.
The nine shopfronts were drawn as the middle house of a three-house row and then cut out. That sounds like a detail, and it is the whole reason they sit in a row without sticking out: a special building ordered on its own comes back in a different projection every time.
Plus two landmarks — a castle and a grand hall, each big enough to carry a scene on its own. They are drawn flat front-on, while the 22 buildings are a three-quarter view, so they sit in their own landmarks/ folder: put one at the end of a road or across a square rather than in the middle of a house row. The README explains it, and there is a preview image of exactly that.
The other three styles are unchanged. We would rather say that than let you find it out.
What's inside
- 99 buildings — 22 per style, plus 11 extra in half-timber: eight plain houses plus inn, bakery, shop, smithy, chapel, apothecary, bookshop, tailor, merchant, fishmonger, garden house, stone house, tower house and guard house
- 95 props — bench, tree, flower pot, fountain, barrels, crates, cart, woodpile, draw well, market stall, lamp post, signpost, notice board, wall lamp, wall sign, washing line, doormat, and a chicken and a cat
- 24 ground decals — puddle, crack, leaves, grass tuft, footprints, smoke. What stops a street looking swept
- 136 terrain tiles — a street and a dirt path per style, each a complete 16-shape corner-Wang set
- 80 alternates — earlier drawings in two other projections, kept separate and clearly labelled
One projection, so a row reads as a street
Every building in the main set faces you with its roof receding above it. That consistency is why a row of them looks like a street rather than a shelf of houses.
One tip that makes the difference when you place them: line them up by the WALL, not by the sprite. The widest point is the roof overhang — butt the sprites together and the walls end up with gaps between them. Measure the visible width of the bottom rows instead, and let the roofs overlap. Every preview image here was assembled that way.
Honest about the edges
- Nine of the 88 buildings sit on a patch of grass, painted into the sprite. They are named in the README. Darkstone has none.
- The street tilesets bring their own grass, and it is a saturated green. Fine as a verge, awkward as a field — if you already own a terrain pack, use its grass and take only the paving from here.
- These are outlined sprites with a lower camera angle than our Overworld line, which is lineless. This pack is its own visual family, and we would rather say so than let you find out after buying.
- No animations, no interiors, no characters. The chicken does not walk and the smoke does not rise.
What was thrown away
Fifteen props are not in this pack. A prompt fault turned a market stall, a cart, a fountain, a lamp post and a barrel stack into tiny buildings with roofs and doors. They were regenerated and the failures cut. Every piece here was looked at side by side on a contact sheet, which is how they were caught.
